Protect your credentials and do not share access beyond your plan rights.
Terms of Service
Effective Date: August 24, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of ReadThisAloud.com, ReadThisAloud customer accounts, subscriptions, trials, billing features, licensing services, secure downloads, support services, cloud-enabled narration services, and other online services provided by ReadThisAloud, a business based in Phoenix, Arizona, United States (“ReadThisAloud,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
BY CLICKING “I AGREE,” “ACCEPT,” “CONTINUE,” “PURCHASE,” “START TRIAL,” OR A SIMILAR CONTROL THAT REFERENCES THESE TERMS; BY CREATING AN ACCOUNT; OR BY USING A SERVICE AFTER THESE TERMS ARE PRESENTED, YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THEM. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE, DO NOT CREATE AN ACCOUNT, PURCHASE, SUBSCRIBE TO, OR USE THE SERVICES.
Renewal frequency, price, and cancellation method are disclosed at checkout.
Plans may include usage limits, device limits, and other service controls.
ReadThisAloud receives only the rights reasonably necessary to operate the service.
Fraud, abuse, license circumvention, harmful use, and deceptive impersonation are prohibited.
Voices, providers, features, limits, and technical requirements may evolve over time.
1. Scope of These Terms
These Terms govern ReadThisAloud's website, customer account, subscription, payment-related account functions, licensing and activation services, secure downloads, usage validation, cloud narration services, support, and other online services that reference these Terms (collectively, the “Services”).
The ReadThisAloud Windows desktop application is additionally governed by the End User License Agreement (“EULA”). If these Terms and the EULA conflict specifically regarding the scope of the desktop software license, the EULA controls unless a separately signed agreement expressly states otherwise.
2. Eligibility and Authority
You must be at least eighteen (18) years old, or the age of legal majority where you live, to create a consumer account or enter into these Terms on your own behalf.
If you use the Services for a company, school, government entity, nonprofit, department, or other organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization. In that case, “you” includes the organization and its Authorized Users.
You may not use the Services if applicable law prohibits ReadThisAloud from providing them to you.
3. Accounts and Account Security
You agree to provide accurate information reasonably necessary to create and maintain your Account and to keep that information current. You are responsible for activity performed through your Account except to the extent caused by ReadThisAloud's own breach of an applicable legal duty.
You must protect your password and the email account used for recovery. You may not share credentials, authentication tokens, license tokens, or other access mechanisms with unauthorized persons.
If you suspect unauthorized access, you must promptly change affected credentials where possible and notify ReadThisAloud. ReadThisAloud may invalidate sessions, reset credentials, revoke tokens, require reauthentication, or temporarily restrict access when reasonably necessary to protect the Account or Services.
4. Electronic Contracting and Acceptance Records
Your electronic acceptance is intended to have the same contractual effect as a handwritten acceptance to the extent permitted by applicable law.
ReadThisAloud may retain records reasonably necessary to show assent and administer the relationship, including the version of the Terms accepted, date and time, Account identifier, order or subscription information, IP or session information, device information, and the acceptance method used.
You consent to receive agreements, receipts, renewal information, billing communications, security notices, account notices, and other service communications electronically where permitted by law.
5. ReadThisAloud Services
The Services may include customer registration, account management, license validation, device activation, subscription administration, secure downloads, narration usage metering, cloud speech processing, support, billing-related account functions, and other features ReadThisAloud makes available.
Some functionality depends on internet connectivity and third-party providers. Features can differ by plan, software version, region, account type, device, service availability, and technical environment.
6. Desktop Software and the EULA
Purchase of a subscription or Account does not transfer ownership of the ReadThisAloud software. The desktop application is licensed, not sold, and use of it is subject to the EULA.
These Terms do not grant a right to reverse engineer, redistribute, resell, sublicense, host, copy, circumvent, or commercially exploit the desktop software beyond the rights expressly granted in the EULA.
7. Plans, Seats, Devices, and Narration Usage
Plans may include limits on Authorized Users, activated devices, natural narration usage, subscription period, support level, administrative features, or other plan-specific capabilities. The current plan description, checkout disclosures, order confirmation, and Account identify the commercial limits applicable to your purchase.
Narration may be measured by characters, service units, estimated time, or another method used by the underlying speech service or ReadThisAloud's metering system. Displayed hours or minutes may be estimates rather than an exact billing unit.
ReadThisAloud may enforce reasonable rate, request-size, concurrency, device, seat, and usage controls to protect the service, prevent abuse, and manage third-party cloud costs.
8. Trials and Promotional Access
ReadThisAloud may offer a free trial, introductory period, promotional credit, discounted period, or other temporary offer. Eligibility, duration, included usage, conversion terms, and expiration conditions are disclosed with the offer.
Trial eligibility may be limited by person, Account, organization, payment method, device, or other reasonable criteria to prevent repeated promotional use or abuse.
If a Trial automatically converts to a paid subscription, the conversion terms, price, billing frequency, and method of cancellation will be disclosed before you authorize the Trial. You are responsible for canceling before the disclosed deadline if you do not want the paid subscription to begin.
9. Purchases, Payment Authorization, and Stripe
Supported online payments are processed through Stripe. By submitting a payment method and completing a purchase, you authorize ReadThisAloud and Stripe to charge the amounts you approve, including applicable subscription fees, taxes, renewals, Add-Ons, and other authorized purchases.
Stripe independently processes payment information under its applicable terms and privacy practices. ReadThisAloud may receive transaction information reasonably necessary to manage the purchase, such as transaction identifiers, payment status, billing information, card brand and last four digits where provided, refund information, and fraud-related signals.
You agree not to use a payment method without authorization. ReadThisAloud may cancel, delay, reverse, or review transactions that appear unauthorized, fraudulent, duplicative, abusive, or inconsistent with applicable payment rules.
10. Automatic Renewal and Recurring Billing
If you enroll in an automatically renewing subscription, your payment method will be charged on the stated recurring schedule until the subscription is canceled, unless otherwise disclosed at checkout.
Before the initial recurring transaction, ReadThisAloud will disclose the subscription price, billing frequency, ongoing nature of the charges, and cancellation method as required by applicable law and payment-network rules.
Renewal pricing may change for a future Billing Period. ReadThisAloud will provide notice of price changes when required by law or applicable payment rules.
11. Subscription Cancellation
You may cancel an automatically renewing subscription using the method provided in your Account or another cancellation method ReadThisAloud makes available. Cancellation stops future renewal; it does not automatically reverse a payment already processed.
Unless applicable law or checkout terms require otherwise, cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid Billing Period and paid access may continue until that period expires.
Uninstalling the software, deleting a local file, stopping use, or failing to log in does not by itself cancel a subscription.
12. Refunds, Credits, and Payment Disputes
Refund eligibility is governed by the Refund & Cancellation Policy, the terms displayed at checkout, and rights that cannot legally be waived.
ReadThisAloud may review Account activity, usage, license and device history, cancellation records, support records, and transaction information when evaluating a refund or responding to a chargeback.
You should not seek both a direct ReadThisAloud refund and a financial-institution chargeback for the same amount. ReadThisAloud may suspend a direct refund process while an overlapping payment dispute is active to prevent duplicate reimbursement.
13. Taxes
Prices may exclude sales, use, transaction privilege, value-added, withholding, or similar taxes unless stated otherwise. ReadThisAloud or its payment provider may calculate and collect taxes where required.
You are responsible for taxes associated with your purchase except taxes imposed on ReadThisAloud's net income. Business customers requesting tax-exempt treatment are responsible for supplying valid documentation where required.
14. Customer Content and Your Rights
As between you and ReadThisAloud, you retain your rights in text, documents, files, and other content you provide to the Services (“Customer Content”). ReadThisAloud does not acquire ownership of your documents merely because you use them with ReadThisAloud.
You grant ReadThisAloud and its authorized service providers a limited, non-exclusive right to host, transmit, process, transform, and otherwise use Customer Content only as reasonably necessary to provide, secure, maintain, troubleshoot, and administer the Services, subject to the Privacy Policy and these Terms.
You represent that you have the rights, permissions, licenses, and authority necessary to submit the Customer Content and request the processing you instruct ReadThisAloud to perform.
15. Natural Voice and Cloud Speech Processing
Supported natural narration depends on cloud-based speech processing. ReadThisAloud may transmit the text necessary for requested narration through ReadThisAloud-controlled infrastructure to third-party providers, including Microsoft Azure Speech Services or successor providers.
Customers are not required to maintain their own Azure account unless ReadThisAloud expressly introduces and offers a separate customer-managed configuration.
Voice availability, latency, pronunciation, provider capacity, language support, regions, and service behavior may vary. ReadThisAloud may add, remove, replace, or modify available voices and providers when reasonably necessary.
16. Generated Audio and WAV Export
Subject to these Terms, the EULA, applicable law, third-party service terms, and your rights in the source Customer Content, ReadThisAloud does not claim ownership of Generated Audio solely because it was synthesized through ReadThisAloud.
You are solely responsible for determining whether you have the legal right to reproduce, store, distribute, publish, perform, monetize, transmit, or otherwise use Generated Audio.
Exporting narration to WAV does not create rights in source content you did not already possess.
17. Acceptable Use
You may use the Services only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms and the EULA. Appropriate uses can include personal reading and listening, education and study where authorized, professional or internal business document review, training and facilitation workflows, accessibility-supporting reading workflows where suitable, and lawful creation of Generated Audio from content you are entitled to process.
18. Prohibited Conduct
You may not use or attempt to use the Services to:
- violate applicable law, sanctions restrictions, court orders, or third-party rights;
- process or distribute content without sufficient rights or authorization;
- defraud, deceive, threaten, harass, exploit, stalk, or unlawfully discriminate;
- deceptively impersonate a real person or falsely present synthetic speech as an authentic recording of that person;
- facilitate phishing, identity theft, payment fraud, or social engineering;
- introduce malware, malicious code, destructive payloads, or harmful automated traffic;
- probe, scan, attack, overload, disrupt, or interfere with ReadThisAloud systems or providers;
- bypass authentication, licensing, metering, device, usage, rate, or security controls;
- obtain or attempt to obtain ReadThisAloud Azure credentials, Stripe secrets, private API keys, internal tokens, or administrative credentials;
- scrape or automate the Services beyond interfaces and limits ReadThisAloud expressly permits;
- resell or provide a competing hosted speech, voice-resale, account-sharing, or service-bureau offering without written authorization;
- reverse engineer protected service or software components except where law expressly prohibits that restriction; or
- use the Services in a safety-critical system where a speech error, delay, outage, or mispronunciation could reasonably cause death, personal injury, or substantial property damage.
19. ReadThisAloud Intellectual Property
ReadThisAloud and its licensors retain all rights in the Services, website, software, source code, object code, designs, branding, trademarks, documentation, account systems, APIs, interfaces, and related intellectual property, excluding Customer Content.
“ReadThisAloud,” ReadThisAloud logos, product designs, and related branding may not be copied, imitated, or used in a manner likely to cause confusion without ReadThisAloud's prior written permission except where law otherwise permits.
20. Feedback and Suggestions
If you voluntarily provide ideas, suggestions, feature requests, or feedback, you grant ReadThisAloud a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, transferable, and sublicensable right to use and incorporate that feedback without restriction or compensation.
This does not transfer ownership of Customer Content you did not intentionally submit as feedback.
21. Business, Team, and Organization Accounts
A Business Plan administrator may manage purchased seats, assign Authorized Users, view appropriate seat or usage information, manage devices where supported, and administer billing or account functions for the organization.
Organizations are responsible for their Authorized Users, internal notices, permissions, document-handling decisions, security approvals, acceptable-use rules, and compliance requirements.
Business customers requiring negotiated procurement, security, privacy, data-processing, or service-level terms must obtain a separately signed written agreement if those terms are to modify these standard Terms.
22. Support
Support is provided according to the support level associated with the applicable plan and the resources reasonably available to ReadThisAloud. Unless a separate written service-level agreement applies, response-time targets and estimated resolution times are not guaranteed.
Customers must cooperate reasonably with troubleshooting and should provide accurate information necessary to reproduce an issue. ReadThisAloud may be unable to resolve problems caused by unsupported environments, third-party documents, customer networks, endpoint security, employer restrictions, or external providers.
Additional guidance is available on the Support page.
23. Service Availability, Updates, and Changes
ReadThisAloud may update, patch, modify, replace, add, remove, suspend, or discontinue features, voices, providers, integrations, technical requirements, or portions of the Services where reasonably necessary for security, reliability, quality, legal, licensing, provider, compatibility, or business reasons.
An individual voice, interface element, file behavior, or non-material feature is not guaranteed to remain unchanged indefinitely.
If ReadThisAloud permanently discontinues a material prepaid Service before the end of an applicable paid term, ReadThisAloud will provide any remedy required by applicable law and may provide another reasonable remedy under the Refund Policy.
24. Third-Party Services
The Services may depend on third-party cloud infrastructure, speech processing, payment processing, networks, software libraries, operating systems, email providers, and other components, including Microsoft and Stripe.
Third parties maintain their own terms, security controls, privacy practices, availability commitments, and technical systems. ReadThisAloud is not responsible for a third party's independent acts, omissions, outages, changes, or products except to the extent liability cannot legally be excluded.
25. Privacy, Data Processing, and Security
ReadThisAloud's handling of personal information is described in the Privacy Policy. Security architecture and customer responsibilities are further described on the Security page.
No software, network, cloud provider, transmission, account system, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. You are responsible for securing your devices, passwords, email account, documents, and exported files.
Unless ReadThisAloud expressly agrees in writing to specialized obligations, do not treat the Services as approved for government-classified data, regulated health information requiring a Business Associate Agreement, payment-card authentication data, or other information requiring specialized contractual safeguards.
26. Suspension and Termination
ReadThisAloud may suspend or terminate access to all or part of the Services if reasonably necessary because of material breach, nonpayment, fraud, unlawful activity, security risk, abusive use, chargeback or payment reversal, license circumvention, excessive technical risk, or conduct that threatens ReadThisAloud, customers, providers, or the Services.
Where reasonable and legally required, ReadThisAloud will provide notice or an opportunity to cure before termination. Immediate restriction may be appropriate where delay could increase fraud, security, legal, financial, or operational harm.
You may stop using the Services at any time, but stopping use does not itself cancel an automatically renewing subscription.
27. Disclaimer of Warranties
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE SERVICES, WEBSITE, ACCOUNTS, CLOUD NARRATION, GENERATED AUDIO, SUPPORT MATERIALS, AND RELATED CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE.
ReadThisAloud DISCLAIMS TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, QUIET ENJOYMENT, ACCURACY, AND WARRANTIES ARISING FROM COURSE OF DEALING OR USAGE OF TRADE.
ReadThisAloud does not warrant uninterrupted operation, error-free output, compatibility with every document or computer, perfect pronunciation, continuous availability of any particular voice, complete security, or suitability for every purpose.
ReadThisAloud is a reading and narration tool and does not provide legal, medical, financial, safety, compliance, educational, or other professional advice.
Some jurisdictions do not permit certain exclusions. In those jurisdictions, these exclusions apply only to the extent permitted by law.
28. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, ReadThisAloud AND ITS OWNERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AFFILIATES, LICENSORS, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; LOST PROFITS, REVENUE, BUSINESS, GOODWILL, OR ANTICIPATED SAVINGS; LOST OR CORRUPTED DATA; COST OF SUBSTITUTE SERVICES; OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICES OR THESE TERMS.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ReadThisAloud'S TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICES OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO ReadThisAloud FOR THE APPLICABLE SERVICES DURING THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US $100).
These limitations do not exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
29. Indemnification by Business and Organizational Users
If you use the Services on behalf of a business or organization, then to the maximum extent permitted by law, that entity will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless ReadThisAloud and its owners, officers, employees, contractors, affiliates, and licensors from third-party claims, damages, liabilities, judgments, penalties, costs, and reasonable attorneys' fees arising from the organization's Customer Content; unlawful or unauthorized use; infringement or violation of third-party rights; violation of law or contractual obligations; or material breach of these Terms.
This Section does not apply to individual consumers to the extent such indemnification would be prohibited or unenforceable under applicable law.
30. Governing Law and Venue
These Terms and disputes arising out of or relating to them or the Services are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except to the extent federal law controls.
Subject to non-waivable consumer rights and jurisdictional protections, you and ReadThisAloud agree that exclusive jurisdiction and venue will lie in the state courts located in Maricopa County, Arizona, or the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, as applicable.
Nothing in this Section prevents either party from seeking appropriate injunctive or equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction where necessary to prevent unauthorized access, credential theft, license circumvention, intellectual-property misuse, or other irreparable harm.
31. Compliance with Law, Export Controls, and Sanctions
You must comply with applicable local, state, federal, and international laws when using the Services, including export-control, import-control, trade-sanctions, intellectual-property, privacy, consumer-protection, and anti-fraud laws.
You represent that you are not prohibited from receiving the Services and will not export, re-export, transfer, or provide access in violation of applicable trade restrictions.
32. Electronic Communications and Notices
ReadThisAloud may communicate with you using the email address associated with your Account, Account notices, website notices, in-application notices, or another reasonable electronic method.
You are responsible for maintaining a valid Account email address and reviewing service communications reasonably related to billing, security, renewal, legal terms, account status, or material changes.
Marketing messages, where used, are subject to applicable opt-out rights. Opting out of marketing does not prevent ReadThisAloud from sending transactional, legal, security, billing, or other necessary service communications.
33. Changes to These Terms
ReadThisAloud may update these Terms to reflect changes in the Services, pricing structure, payment practices, providers, security, law, or business operations. The revised Terms will identify an updated effective date.
Material changes will be communicated in a reasonably conspicuous manner, and ReadThisAloud will request affirmative acceptance where applicable law requires it.
Changes that affect future subscription renewals will be handled in accordance with applicable law and the notices applicable to the relevant recurring-payment arrangement.
34. General Contract Terms
34.1 Entire Agreement and Order of Precedence
These Terms, the EULA, applicable order and checkout terms, the Privacy Policy, and Refund Policy form the principal standard agreements governing ReadThisAloud's consumer Services. The Privacy Policy governs data-processing matters; the Refund Policy governs stated refund eligibility; and the EULA governs the desktop software license.
34.2 Assignment
You may not assign these Terms or transfer your Account or subscription without ReadThisAloud's prior written consent except where law prohibits such a restriction. ReadThisAloud may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, or transfer of the ReadThisAloud business.
34.3 Severability
If a provision is found invalid or unenforceable, it will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted or modified to best achieve its lawful purpose, and the remaining provisions remain in effect.
34.4 Waiver
A failure or delay to enforce a provision is not a waiver. A waiver is effective only to the extent expressly granted.
34.5 Force Majeure
ReadThisAloud is not liable for delay or failure caused by circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including natural disasters, internet or utility failures, cyberattacks, labor disputes, provider outages, governmental actions, war, terrorism, civil unrest, epidemics, or failures of third-party infrastructure, except where liability cannot legally be excluded.
34.6 No Third-Party Beneficiaries
Except where expressly stated otherwise, these Terms create no enforceable rights for third parties.
34.7 Headings and Language
Headings are for convenience only. The controlling language is English unless applicable law requires otherwise.
